What are the season dates and shooting hours?
South Dakota regular pheasant season typically begins the 3rd Saturday in October and concludes the first week in January. Of our 5,000 huntable acres we additionally have over 1,200 acres of premier habitat registered under SD Game, Fish & Parks as a restricted shooting area. This extends our hunting season from Sept. 1 – March 31. This status allows for earlier shooting time and increased bag limits. Regular season shooting hours are 10AM to sunset entire season.
What are our bag limits?
SDGFP pheasant bag limits are 3 male roosters a day and a possession limit of 15 roosters. Increased bag limits are also limited to a 15 rooster possession limit.
Can we bring our own hunting dogs?
We encourage hunters to bring their own dogs and will rotate them in with our guide dogs. We have kennel facilities available and require a copy of up-to-date vaccinations before arrival. Dogs are not allowed in the lodge.
What hunting apparel should I bring?
We suggest bringing layers of clothing. South Dakota weather can fluctuate 15-25 degrees from one day to another. Brush pants, chaps or leg gaiters are recommended and the more blaze orange the better. Our hunting apparel is available online or on-site for your convenience. Eye protection is required and ear protection is at your discretion.
What shotgun or shells should we bring?
The gauge and type of shotgun are strictly up to you. The most common are 20ga and 12ga shotguns. Plugs are not required for pheasant hunts. High brass with #5 or #6 shot early season and #5 or #4 shot late season. Modified chokes are successful for most seasons and full choke work well late season.
What should I know about combination dove hunt?
This is an early season bonus hunt and requires the purchase of migratory bird stamp in addition to the SD Combination license. This hunt also requires the use of a plug and steel shot. High brass #7 or #7 ½ shot works well.
